On March 1, 2025, I will celebrate my 25th anniversary as a journalist. My first paid article – back when I was in 12th grade – was a feature on graffiti in Münster. It was published on March 1, 2000, in the March issue of Münster’s street magazine draußen!.
In 2008, after completing all my coursework in law school, I began working full-time as a journalist. That year, I was first published in national media such as the German online edition of Deutsche Welle, Frankfurter Rundschau, and Süddeutsche Zeitung.
Since then, I have published over 500 pieces, including 40 for DER SPIEGEL. My body of work includes a feature-length documentary film, one book as an author, another as an editor, as well as several book contributions. Feel free to take a look at my section Journalistic Achievements.
Although I never studied journalism formally, nor completed a journalism internship, traineeship, or editorial training program, I became a freelance journalism lecturer at the age of 28. As a teaching associate, I’ve had the opportunity to share my knowledge at some of Germany’s most respected journalism training institutions.
After 25 years working as a journalist in Germany—and experiencing a great deal of racism—I’ve decided to leave not only Bonn, but Germany as a whole. In connection with my work anniversary and my emigration plans, I launched a crowdfunding campaign on Startnext. Both the first and second phases of the campaign have already been successful. You can support phase 3 of the crowdfunding here.
